Kim got this recipe from HGTV and makes it every Christmas morning for breakfast. It has become a family favorite as a sweet treat to go with Shalon’s Breakfast Sausage Casserole and Aunt Aggie’s Potato Casserole. The original recipe called for blueberries, but Kim likes blackberries better.

Nonstick spray
1 baguette, cut into 1-inch slices
6 eggs
3 cups milk
1 cup brown sugar
Vanilla to taste
Nutmeg to taste
1 cup pecans, toasted
2 cups blackberries, fresh or frozen
Coat a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with nonstick spray and arrange the baguette slices in a single layer in the dish. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, nutmeg, and three-fourths of the brown sugar. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread. There will appear to be a lot of moisture when the mixture goes into the refrigerator, but it will all soak into the bread.
Just before baking the next morning, sprinkle the remaining one-quarter cup of brown sugar, pecans, and blackberries over the bread. Bake the dish at a 350ยบ F. for 45 minutes to an hour or until golden brown and bubbling. Serve with maple syrup.
