This recipe came from Callie’s mother-in-law, Clara Clark, and was one of Callie’s favorite recipes from her.

1 ¾ cups flour

1 ½ cups sugar

1 cup oil

1  cup buttermilk

1 cup blackberry or strawberry jam

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon nutmeg

½ teaspoon allspice

1 teaspoon vanilla

3 eggs

Nuts

Sift spices, baking soda, baking powder, and flour. Blend all ingredients in a bowl and beat for about 8 minutes. Add some raisins coated in flour, if desired. Pour this into a greased cake pan and bake at 350º F. for 45 minutes.

Callie says “Melt butterscotch chips and spread between and over the layers. This is as much icing as I like, it is just a glaze.”
